The Rumours of the Death of Lee Kuan Yew...

Hi peeps,
Those who live in Singapore might have heard about this rumour which spread like wildfire about the death of Lee Kuan Yew (Founder of Singapore aka our Ah Gong). Suddenly, everyone has a friend that works in the secret police force or doctor attending to him. Weird right? Out of blue, everyone seems to be closer to Ah Gong now.

There are like 2 sides of the clan :
1. Hoping he lives to a thousand years old
2. Hoping he is dead and see some changes to Singapore

But judging by what we see now around us - are people sure that they will see a difference in Singapore after the fall of Ah Gong?

Although we do see the growing interest in young Singaporeans in the country's politics. But I personally do not really have confidence if Singapore would to be run differently. There are always two sides to the coin.

Let's say Housing
- People thinks it should be more affordable, rules should be more lax
Of course, we welcome cheaper housing but what would that impact us in the long run
  • We might face more competition in getting a new house (people tend to reconsider and think through properly before taking up a life long of debt?)
  • Due to land scarcity, this had driven our land prices and also housing, so some of the Singaporeans who are not doing so well might have to stay with their parents (lower demand for housing, more units for young couples - although we think housing should be available to all Singaporeans, life is unfair and people should long known that, plus even if we made  housing cheaper, do you find more land you can build on?)
  • By making things more expensive, life is indeed tough for many but it also driven people to  work harder (for example, Ah Pork have plans for us to pay off our housing loan before the scheduled period - this is insane for this Ah Pork that wants to drive beer all his life, slack to have such aspirations right?)
Freedom
- We have great amount of freedom in terms of traveling. To be frank, not freedom of speech. Due to how people are brought up or managed, many countries trust our citizens to be all good and well, do you know we are rank 9th in terms of travel freedom.
  • If everyone could just say what they want to say, it is not necessarily contributing to progression for us, it is only the constructive opposition that will benefit Singapore to constantly remind our government what are the issues that we have neglected and need to focus more on (it is like the second eye to help look out for areas we have have not noticed)
  •  Well, sometimes when we just let everyone speaks their thoughts- this might cause unnecessary trouble like the LKY is dead hoax (maybe another way to increase viewership for NDP??)
This is what Ah Gong counter these rumours with

Caption placed in this picture: you rascals on the internet, don't anyhow spread rumours!

Judging by this photo of him alive and rocking at the age of  89, he still have quite a way to go!
